DLC for 3/1

The last few weeks of DLC have been somewhat… sentimental. I enjoyed them, but a couple weeks of sappy songs has me ready for some music that helps me blow the roof off the place. And with the next batch of DLC coinciding (FINALLY) with the release of the Fender Squier Pro Guitar, I’m really hoping Harmonix releases a Pro-Guitar centric batch of songs. DLC for next week is included below.

  • Nine Inch Nails – Terrible Lie
  • Nine Inch Nails – Head Like a Hole *
  • Nine Inch Nails – Sanctified
  • Nine Inch Nails – The Only Time

* Denotes Pro-Guitar/Bass chart availability for an additional $.99

Nothing quite like the feel of something new

  • Paul says:

Aww, we don’t get the Honest Bob and the Factory-To-Dealer Incentives version of Head Like a Hole?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIJhXeN7zCs

I’m not a big NIN fan, but it’s nice to see the changeup this week. Maye this will help keep people from complaining all Harmonix releases is classic rock?

    RockBandAide Reply:

I never heard this! That’s VERY different, but pretty cool! \m/

    Jay Reply:

I heard this version before hearing the original…
Honest Bob does miracles for the song.

    LoopyChew Reply:

Linkin Park didn’t do that, and if LP are considered Classic Rock, I’m older than I thought.

    Whizzer Reply:

That was only one week. If classic rock continues for another month after this, Nine Inch Nails won’t be any different.

    Goldskarr Reply:

Sirs and madams, I have two words.
    Stone Sour.

  • Game!Ov3r says:

ish… Just getting Head Like a Hole. I was really hoping for a RB3 The Hand That Feeds, since RB1 will never export to Wii.

  • the barking dog says:

Why didn’t they just go ahead and put out all of Pretty Hate Machine?

    RockBandAide Reply:

I thought the same thing at first when someone asked me on Formspring a few weeks ago about my “Dream NIN pack.” The album is AMAZING, but many songs wouldn’t translate well to the game, I think.

But it is good to see that two of my “dream” songs made the cut! http://www.formspring.me/Rockbandaide/q/162229858477316451

    RockBandAide Reply:

    Licensing.

Learn it, live it, love it.

  • Fo0dNippl3 says:

Cool song choices, although I’m disappointed they didn’t go for more stuff from The Downward Spiral or The Fragile.

  • Kirksplosion says:

    HEAD LIKE A HOLE!

    ‘Bout time.

  • Kirksplosion says:

Dang, I’ve got almost every single one of those. Great choices. I hope we see more of this going on.

  • Goose says:

Awesome. I knew there would be some good fallout from remastering Pretty Hate Machine (which they did a @#$%ing amazing job on).

  • Jason2087 says:

God damn it Harmonix! Where is “Closer”?! for the 3rd straight NIN pack you’ve made my heart sink by NOT including this song. I’m so annoyed, I’m buying warriors of rock now just to play that song, and I’m a huge DLC buyer (1300 songs) and I refuse to buy anymore NIN until that song is released. Damn it.

    RockBandAide Reply:

    Yeah, you tell ‘em!

Closer is their most overrated song. I have all their albums, most of their imports, and seen them live countless times. I’ll take ANY NIN in Rock Band, but the lack of that song doesn’t disappoint me at ALL.

    HeXcoda Reply:

    Closer is

    A) Really hard to make fun and playable in the Rock Band format, and
    B) A censorship nightmare.

Two strong reasons to steer clear.

    CloudWolf Reply:

    C) Not on Pretty Hate Machine and thus irrelevant for this Pretty Hate Machine pack

    RockBandAide Reply:

Guitar Hero had it, and I meant to pick it up to see how they did with it. I like the song, I just don’t think it translates well to music games sadly.

    RockBandAide Reply:

Also, here’s my evidence from a few weeks ago. No “Closer” anywhere on my “dream” NIN DLC pack: http://www.formspring.me/Rockbandaide/q/162229858477316451

    Jason2087 Reply:

Well GH had it and they hav to adhere to the same censorship standards as RB and they were able to push it through. And also there’s tons of songs in RB that are boring to play but are in the game. The “fun” factor isn’t really an issue with DLC (polly) seeing as it’s optional. Or even at this point with on disc songs (“imagine”- great song, incredibly boring). Also I’m usually not one to complain but after 3 packs and almost 3 years of the band and not getting the song you want is annoying. ‘Cause you say “oh well maybe next NIN DLC pack” then “oh well maybe the next one” now after this I have to wait another year to get another shot.

    QuestionMark Reply:

Hey, that’s the way it goes with artists with a significant discography. We have how many Weezer releases and I still don’t have Island in the Sun? Or no Josie from multiple releases of Blink 182? Nor Big Me from umpteen releases of Foo Fighters?

But I understand — my favorites aren’t necessarily their favorites. Or easy to license. Or scheduled right away.

Be patient and understand that they are trying the impossible task of catering to you, me, and everyone else who buys DLC.

For the record, I would buy Closer in a heartbeat.

    Whizzer Reply:

Guitar Hero didn’t have to adhere to the same censorship standards. Harmonix could impose extreme censorship standards for themselves. There may be a baseline, but Harmonix goes further than that, to keep it rated T.

    MarioDaPlatypus Reply:

If Rock Your Socks by Tenacious D, Laid to Rest by Lamb of God, and FOD by Green Day are in the game, I don’t think they are too woried about censoring a few words.

  • SMTDante says:

I’m not going to complain. Two of my favorite tracks from the album, and the other two have some sweet bass. Would have loved to have “Sin” but beggars can’t be choosers.

  • AeroSmash says:

    Like GH ?
    Naa thanks

    GH NIN DLC was better

    Croq Reply:

    What’s GH? :)

    FoxForever Reply:

It may have been better, but where are they now?

    RockBandAide Reply:

    Their DLC included:
    The Hand That Feeds (AORB)
    Closer (overrated, but missed nonetheless)
Head Like a Hole (now in Rock Band, along with keys, harmonies, and Pro-Guitar)

With this DLC, Rock Band now has 11 NIN songs, versus Guitar Hero’s 4. I think Rock Band is doing alright.

Although, I miss “Wish” in Rock Band a LOT more than I miss “Closer.”

    FoxForever Reply:

    oh yes, definitely Wish.

    ChaosRaiden Reply:

+1, One of the only songs i can bare on WOR

  • Game!Ov3r says:

Metallica, hem…getting closer and closer to new Metallica DLC I think…

  • Emil says:

I’m a huge NIN fan and I just got a warm, funny feeling inside. Too bad we didn’t get more pro guitar Nine Inch Nails tracks though. Guess I should get my keyboard out!

  • Plutarch says:

4 songs seemed like a weak batch of DLC until I saw those pro-upgrades. Holy shit. It’s a really interesting new approach too. Most of those songs aren’t big on keys/harmonies (except for Boston, would have gladly bought a new version of that one), so it made sense to avoid new “RB3 versions” in favor of the pro upgrades. Should go over much better with the fanbase at large.

    MarioDaPlatypus Reply:

They are just Pro guitar/bass upgrades though, aren’t they?

  • rdyman says:

Here’s hoping we get even more DLC from NIN in the future. At least I’m hoping.

    RockBandAide Reply:

YES!!! I want their entire catalog in Rock Band! Is that asking too much?! ;)

    RandydG Reply:

Not at all, the unfortunate thing is that if we want keys for the older NIN songs, we’ll have to re-dl them. But i would gladly pay for the whole discography!

    Cian Reply:

I think NIN is the only band I would re-buy the songs for. And X Japan (Although I.V. was part of the free download pack, so I guess that’s not really re-buying).

    RandydG Reply:

Oh for sure! My buddy Tim and I are in agreement about re-buying all the past NIN songs just for the keys and harmony upgrades.

    rdyman Reply:

I just “Wish” we got “Down In It” in this pack too.
    Man, I suck at puns.

    Whizzer Reply:

It’s only 110 songs, excluding the 91 silent 1 second tracks, Wikipedia tells me. Might be a bit too much.

But I can understand every NIN fan is happy to have more after a long draught.

  • RBGHfam says:

Not what I expected but I will be buying all of these. Where’s the rest of the album?

I’m a little surprised to see “The only Time”. Would rather see “Down In It” but whatever. “Something I can never have” would have been awesome for vocals but I know it doesn’t have enough instrumentally to be in RB :(

    RockBandAide Reply:

Yes, “The Only Time” is my least favorite track from the album. Your two alternatives would have been much better.

    Inertiatic-Wrist Reply:

Ha, it’s funny, “The Only Time” is one of my favorites on PHM. Just listening to the track it’s gonna be a great one to play on bass and keyboard, and of course sing!

I’m very excited about more NIN since they are one of my absolute favorite bands.

Hopefully when they release The Fragile special edition they will do a Fragile track pack to coincide? What would be your ideal 4 pack of Fragile tracks? Here’s mine:

    1. The Fragile
    2. We’re In This Together
    3. The Big Come Down
    4. Please

    RockBandAide Reply:

I have to admit, The Fragile was probably my least favorite of their releases (unless we’re counting Ghosts I-IV).

I would go with “Starf**kers, Inc.,” “We’re In This Together,” “Into the Void,” and “Just Like You Imagined.” (I know, they’re the more popular ones, but I was mostly meh on that album.)

    Cian Reply:

While I love The Fragile, I think those would be excellent choices. Especially the keys on “Just Like You Imagined”. That would be to die for. I’d also make my entire band look like Spartans since it was used in the trailer for 300… >.>

    Chas Reply:

Into the Void would be awesome with harmonies and Just Like You Imagined would be insane on keys.

Yes, I would have like to have seen Sin or Down In It in this pack, but the inclusion of Sanctified and Terrible Lie (boring on guitar, but great for keys) makes up for it in my book.

I’m wondering if they will have all four instruments on all songs, since The Only Time doesn’t really have anything that seems like a “guitar” part.

    RandydG Reply:

Oh not at all, remember that Imagine doesn’t have all the instuments also, not to mention a few other songs there.

  • Chucklestyle says:

SOLD X 1000. I have most of that DLC too so I’ll end up with most of the pro upgrades as well.

  • Croq says:

I don’t recognize these by name, but I’m sure I’ll have at least one “oh, THAT song” when I give them a listen. I like the previous NIN packs, so I’ll probably get this one too.

    RockBandAide Reply:

Their biggest “hit” of these songs was “Head Like a Hole,” fooled closely by “Terrible Lie.” “Sanctified” is a great underrated song that not as many people know. Then there’s “The Only Time.” Meh.

  • Jay says:

Geez, not a fan of NIN, but anyone else notice the size of the packs for RB dropping? What’s this? Only getting 3-5 songs each week? What happened to those large 8-12 song packs?

    Eric Reply:

We had 6 and 7 song packs the last two weeks. What are you talking about?

    Game!Ov3r Reply:

also the 18 or so tracks a couple of weeks ago for the Clash

    Plutarch Reply:

I think the massive amount of pro-upgrades for previous DLC played into it this time.

    Jay Reply:

What I’m talking about is… well, just the modern stuff, I guess.
Like This pack only has four songs.
The Linkin Park pack had five.
Stone Sour only had like three.

I just remember last year when every week, I could look forward to packs of 6-8+ songs releasing, and more variety each week- like a few three-packs from different artists.

    Whizzer Reply:

Yes, but we get 11 Pro upgrades, some for great songs. As far back as to the first week of Rock Band DLC.

Linkin Park 01 had six songs, unless you don’t count ‘Waiting for the End’. It’s not all that bad a song, really.

And every year has weeks with few songs. It might seem to happen more to the modern music so far, but that can still change. Let’s not forget that there already is more modern music than older music as it is.

    RockBandAide Reply:

Not counting songs released as part of major titles such as Green Day or Rock Band 3, the average amount of songs released as DLC per week in 2010 was just slightly over 8.2 songs.

For all currently available DLC in 2011, the average amount of songs released as DLC per week in 2011 is 7.6 songs.

The difference is less than ONE song per week. And 2011 is only two months in. It’s waaaay too early to say that the DLC quality/quantity has dropped since last year.

  • Eric says:

    Thank god for no exclusivity!

When Head Like a Hole and Closer dropped for GH a few weeks back, I was sad because I thought no more NIN in RB. But now my heart soars.

One out of two ain’t bad. And HLAH is a favorite NIN song.

  • JoeCamNet says:

    Fuck YES!
I am gonna hit the A button extra hard to purchase this on Tuesday, just to show I’m really excited!

  • Cian says:

Need to buy like 200 more MS Points for this. OH WAIT. Microsoft doesn’t let us buy 200 more MS Points. Looks like another $5 gone. >.>

BUT I’M SO PUMPED FOR THIS.

  • Skydog says:

Good Money saving week, will get head like a hole though.

  • Andre says:

Oh crap, another week with no DLC for me. I hate NIN.

Well, at least this is making me go and listen to the artists in RBN. Bought myself a couple of tracks yesterday and one of them was surprisingly good.

    killer_roach Reply:

To each their own. I happen to like NIN, and Pretty Hate Machine in particular (sad not to see “Down In It” part of the pack, but whatever)… and, as a PS3 owner, RBN offerings are a) limited and b) usually awful (40% of this week’s selections is A Day To Remember, which can DIAF for all I care).

    RandydG Reply:

I very much agree with you. Us PS3 users are kinda left behind for a alot, but not as bad as Wii. It sucks that we have to get online to see/hear what the songs acutally sound like. If we had the option to hear/preview the RBN songs on PS3 im sure id end up buying more RBN tracks. Currently i only have 4 RBN songs, and thats only cause i know what the song actually sounds like.

Thank you Rock Band Aide for posting not only the list of PS3 RBN songs, but also with a music player with the songs! FTW!

  • Andre says:

Yeah, to each their own, I agree.

The two songs I downloaded, btw, are:

OaOaO by The Taj Motel Trio

    and

Better Sleep by Fatter Than Albert

The first one is a very upbeat ska song, very fun to play. Totally recommended. The second one is pretty weird and kinda brutal on the guitar. It’s really hard to describe, but it’s like hardcore meets jazz meets ska. On shrooms.

On a positive note, I checked the other songs from the Fatter Than Albert album that song is from, and it happens to be a very interesting band. That song seems to be the weirdest of the album. Go figure…

  • SVuser says:

yess!, fucking fantastic. if ”get down make love” were there I’d be in heaven, but that’s a bit of a long shot. Also, I’m a big fan of ”the only time”, it’s pretty unique imho

  • Jb says:

    AMAZING DLC!

My favorite band//artist of all time. I’m especially excited for The Only Time to be included since its one of the best songs on PHM.

Next Trent we need Discipline, Physical, The Becoming (the version from the Still album would be spectacular) and In This Twilight.

    SVuser Reply:

in this twilight would be insane!, maybe the best song of his career

    killer_roach Reply:

Yes, definitely The Becoming… my highest-interest NIN song not in the game yet has to be Reptile, though, even if I’m not entirely sure how well it would work in RB.

  • gladiatory2k says:

I really would have liked Dead souls….admittedly that is my favorite because of the movie, but I think it would be fun in RB.

  • Ashtrayheart says:

Cannot effing wait. I’m so glad we’re finally getting more Nine Inch Nails! Buying the whole pack.

I can stop being jealous about Warriors of Rock having Head Like a Hole as well.

    Cian Reply:

I’m not following. If both games have the song… why be jealous?

  • RandydG says:

As soon as i got the tweet from Rock Band Aide this morning, i freaked out and started to foward the text to a few people. I had a shitty grin, and had to drink more vodka to calm down..lol

So anyone else here play on PS3?

  • Whizzer says:

Not quite my taste, though I do like this more than the other two packs. Might pick it up if the charts are particularly good. I’ll certainly get some of the Pro upgrades!

  • Saeglopur says:

Can’t we get Downward Spiral full album instead? I want Eraser, Closer and Hurt.

    Krystof Reply:

That would be a dream. Especially playing ‘A Warm Place’ on Keys.

    RockBandAide Reply:

This DLC was to help promote late last year’s Pretty Hate Machine re-master re-release. Hopefully we will get the remainder of Downward Spiral as DLC in the future.
